SuperMario3DWorld-1

Super Mario 3D World released worldwide this past Friday, November 22. The sales figures in Japan sang to the tune of sad violins, seeing as it’s the lowest sales figures a 3D Mario game has seen (during the first week of sales) to date. The following list contains the sales figures of 3D Mario game sales during their first week, and it shows Super Mario 3D World in last place, with a dismal 106,967 sales:

3D Mario Week One Sales:

  1. Super Mario 3D Land- 344,698 (1,861,023 total)
  2. Super Mario Galaxy 2 – 337,569 (1,032,853 total)
  3. Super Mario Sunshine – 280,610 (789,989 total)
  4. Super Mario Galaxy – 256,341 (1,025,664 total)
  5. Super Mario 64* – 162,113 (1,639,914 total)
  6. Super Mario 64 DS* – 120,062 (1,231,535 total)
  7. Super Mario 3D World – 106,967

Considering Mario is such a smash hit in Japan, these sales figures are unexpected and somewhat disappointing. Especially considering Super Mario 3D Land and Super Mario 3D World are so similar in gameplay style, it’s baffling that Super Mario 3D World didn’t sell nearly as well as Super Mario 3D Land.
