SpawnStaff’s August Playlist

by

We’re nearing the end of summer, and coincidentally, the end of the “late summer game drought” as well. Pretty soon, we’ll be strolling our way into autumn, with the cooler weather and the shorter days pushing us to become the couch hobbits we so desperately tried to avoid being during the sunny season. Add to the cooler season (and lazier attitudes) a whole deluge of fall games (need I mention GTA 5 breaking the dam first?) and next-gen consoles, and folks, we have a recipe for disaster. And by disaster I mean never leaving the couch and enjoying the best video games and consoles the industry has to offer. So how are Mark, Fraser, and Buddy dealing with the transition? By playing a boatload of games, that’s how!

What were you playing in August?

I had my hands full with tons of games, but mostly Call of Duty: Black Ops II. Although last month I said I’d focus on Halo 4, that didn’t really happen. I got sucked back into Call of Duty. All month, I used the Five Seven (the first pistol) without using a primary weapon. Finally I got the Gold camo, and it’s now my most used weapon and I think I’m finally finished with the game. I also got to play Payday 2, but not nearly as much as I would have wanted. I did a few heists with my co-worker Brian, and hopefully we’ll do some more soon. I hopped on Garry’s Mod every now and again, because that game always makes me smile. The weird, yet incredibly fun game modes are always a blast. I played a few other games such as Halo 4 and Geometry Wars 2 to name a few, but not that much.

What will you play in September?

I presume all my other co-workers will say the same thing as myself: GTA V! Honestly, who won’t be picking it up? Hopefully it will live up to all our expectations and I anticipate I’ll be playing GTA V for most of the month after it releases. At the beginning of the September, I’ll most likely continue playing Garry’s Mod, Payday 2 and hopefully some State of Decay.  Nearing late September, I’ll definitely be picking up FIFA 14. I’ve been a fan of the series for years now, and the Ultimate Team game mode on the recent games promises many hours of enjoyment. On the wishlist for September will be Rome: Total War 2, Disney Infinity, along with many other titles.

What were you playing in August?

I reviewed Animal Crossing: New Leaf, Attack of the Friday Monsters! A Tokyo Tale, Ride to Hell: Retribution, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, Charlie Murder and Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, all of which I enjoyed except the crusty botch of nature that is Ride to Hell. I can’t recommend Brothers enough, and I’m still playing New Leaf. I also played quite a bit of Fable I and III, Eternal Sonata, Professor Layton and the Miracle Mask and XCOM: Enemy Unknown. Miracle Mask and XCOM are both amazing. I’m also playing The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks, LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins and Killer Is Dead and will be reviewing The Chase Begins and Killer Is Dead.

What’s up for September?

I’ll still be playing Spirit Tracks and New Leaf. I’ll be reviewing Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA F, plus several 3DS games and whatever else Karam tosses my way (Editor‘s note: I just tossed Diablo 3 for the PS3 your way as well …*sigh* the life of a game journalist). Of course I’m going to play Grand Theft Auto V (isn’t everyone?). I’m going to try my best to finally play Splinter Cell: Blacklist. I’ll also definitely be checking out Rayman Legends and Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 ReMIX (hell yeah). I may try out the console version of Diablo III. And I’ll be playing a bunch of other games though I’m not sure which ones, though they’ll have to be PS3 or 3DS games for the most part since my 360 is busted and will be shipped off to Microsoft for repairs at the beginning of the month.

What were you playing in August?

Well despite me saying I was going to play a lot of Total War games, I really never touched a single one for more than 10 minutes. It occurred to me that I will be bashing on with Rome 2 for a long time and wanted it to feel lots fresher! I did however wet my whistle with plenty of Medal of Honor: Warfighter, a truly underrated game. I also rocked a lot of 7 Days to Die. And I mean a LOT. I recently got Insurgency and Sir, You are Being Hunted so I have been playing some of these pretty awesome games. Not to forget, of course, the almighty DayZ. Been playing tons of that, and loving/hating every second!

What’s up for September?

Rome 2. Just, Rome 2. It’s all nice and preloaded just sitting waiting to be played, I can’t convey enough how excited I am for the unlock date. Another game I’m gonna be playing a lot of is Stardrive. I got it a while ago and I played a fair bit before I gave up trying to learn the mechanics, so I’ll have to revisit it if I get a chance.  I’ve come to the conclusion I get too many games on humble bundles that I don’t play, so I will be trawling ye olde steam library for a few I haven’t touched yet. That’s pretty much it though!
