Fans of Sonic the Hedgehog haven’t had much to get excited about since Sonic Generations hit the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC in 2011 (followed by an inferior 3DS version, but we don’t talk about that). Sega’s exclusivity deal with Nintendo that will see a trio of Sonic games to remain Wii U and 3DS exclusives has gotten off to an underwhelming start; Sonic: Lost World was met with a lukewarm reception while Mario & Sonic at the Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games hasn’t fared much better either. The third Nintendo exclusive game has yet to be announced, but it’ll presumably put in an appearance in the latte half of 2014 if the October/November release dates of the last three games – Colours, Generations and Lost World – are any indication.
Looking ahead though and it appears that Sonic will be freed from the confines of the Nintendo ecosystem, returning to the Wii U in 2015 but also making his debut on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

Does anyone have a time machine handy?

This poster was spotted at the Nuremberg Toy Fair, clearly showing that a new as-yet-unannounced Sonic the Hedgehog title will be released on all three platforms at some point in 2015. What’s curious however is that the poster makes no mention of the elusive third Nintendo exclusive Sonic game; it seems odd that Sega wouldn’t list that and yet list an additional game that’s more than likely around twenty two months away from release.
Could it be that the partnership between Sega and Nintendo has gone south and the third Wii U/3DS exclusive will now be developed simultaneously for Sony and Microsoft’s fledging consoles? We’ll have to wait and see.

The PS Vita might not have been setting any sales records since its launch in the UK nearly two years ago, but the number of units being sold has shot up by a staggering 163% following the launch of the PlayStation 4, according to Managing Director of Sony UK & Ireland, Fergal Gara.

In a statement made to IGN, Gara cited the Vita’s ability to stream PS4 games via Remote Play as a major contributing factor, saying:

A significant number of PS Vita purchasers in the UK indicated that Remote Play was their reason for purchase, and we are subsequently seeing lots of these new PS Vita users connecting to PS4 with this feature.

Thereâ€s no further concrete information regarding what Sony plans to announce in less than a weekâ€s time, but with the word “slim” being bandied about, there are only so many feasible possibilities. The first is the Western launch of the PS Vita Slim; already available in Japan, this model is 20% thinner and 15% lighter than the existing one, replaces the OLED screen with a 5-inch LCD display, includes 1GB of internal memory and comes in a variety of colours running the gamut from delightful to offensive. Vita hardware sales saw a massice surge around the time of the PlayStation 4 launch – likely due to the oft-advertised Remote Play functionality – and Sony could very well be attempting to give the Vita another push in sales and consumer awareness by releasing the Slim.

The second possibility is that Sony is releasing the PS Vita TV in the West. Available in Japan since November 2013, this microconsole essentially allows users to play PlayStation Vita games on their TV using either a DualShock 3 or DualShock 4, although games dependent on the Vita’s front touch screen, rear touch pad, microphone or cameras are incompatible. Personally, this seems like the most likely announcement to come to light come 30th January: first off, the thing’s tiny – lending credence to the “slimmest launch” blurb; secondly, the Vita TV – like its portable brethren – supports PS4 Remote Play and thus would allow PS4 users to stream their next-gen games not just to a Vita but to another TV in their house, potentially presenting the PS4 with a huge advantage over the Xbox One.

Small, compact and able to stream inFAMOUS: Second Son to another TV. Tempted?

And in the interests of uninformed Internet discussion and wholly preposterous speculation, how about these theories?

The PlayStation 3 Super-Duper Slim: everything you love about PS3, now the same thickness as a credit card.

PlayStation 4 Slim: because why should Nintendo hold the record of most console redesigns in a generation? Best for Sony to get in there now if they hope to snatch that title away.

“Slim” isn’t alluding to the size of a hardware unit; instead it’s all a ruse to try and get us hyped up for some new console-based fitness game titled PlayStation Slim.

And that’s all. Even I’m struggling to think of anything more stupid than those. As soon as we have more information regarding what Sony actually has up its sleeve, we’ll let you know.

Containing classic dungeon crawling and elements similar to those seen in the Persona series – such as forging and maintaining relationships with NPC’s – Demon Gaze has already been doing the rounds in Japan for a year, but American and European Vita owners can grab it in just a few months’ time, as NIS America has announced that it will be bringing the Kadokawa Games developed Vita-exclusive JRPG to Western markets this April. Alongside the dungeon exploring, demon slaying and friend making, Demon Gaze will also allow players to create custom secondary characters to join protagonist Oz on his quests, with seven character classes and five races to choose from. It’ll also come with both the Japanese and English voice-overs.

Demon Gaze is definitely one of the bigger Vita-exclusive titles heading our way in 2014 and you’ll be able to pick it up either on the PSN or at retail from 22nd April in North America or 25th April in the UK and Europe.
