MGS: Ground Zeroes: Different Framerate For Different Gens

by

Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes has been confirmed as running in different frame rates for different console generations. The game will run at 30 fps on current gen and 60 fps on next-gen.

Hideo Kojima stated that the “Fox Engine was created with current generation in mind. Maybe with other games that are being created exclusively for next-gen it might look a little behind.”

Bear in mind that the Fox Engine has been tweaked and worked on since the release of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Therefore, it’s no surprise that Kojima mentioned that it might look “behind” on next-gen. While the graphics for Metal Gear Solid 4 were extremely impressive for their time, graphics have advanced since then and they may be a little closer to next-gen graphics.

Kojima also pointed out that “for the next generation, the resolution and the lighting will look much better. Gameplay wise, it will be the same – we’re trying to make it as close as possible. The gameplay experience won’t be affected whether it’s next-gen or current gen.” It’s great that the differences are only limited to visuals. It makes the decision to get the game on current or next-gen a little less difficult. For those who want enhanced visuals, next-gen would be the obvious choice; for those who just want to experience the game before the release of The Phantom Pain, current gen would be the better choice.
