The PlayStation 4 is the best selling console during the two-month launch window. The PS4 is also leading worldwide sales with 4.2 million units sold.

Even Nintendo had some good news to share. More Wii Us were sold in December than in any other month of 2013. Perhaps the biggest and most surprising news is that the 3DS was the top-selling console for December and the entirety of 2013, though its affordable price tag probably had something to do with that.

Yay gaming!

Please remember that worldwide, the PlayStation 3 has been ahead in sales for many years). Their 32 month winning streak was broken due to the Grand Theft Auto V console bundle that released alongside the game according to NPD analyst Liam Callahan. The popularity of GTA V helped to boost the sales way up the charts into the number one spot for the month of September.

Aside from Sony having an impressive month in sales, Nintendo also has a lot to be proud of. Since the price cut of the Wii U, sales for the console have “tripled month-on-month in September.” The increase in sales is also attributed to the The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD Wii U bundle. Microsoft also stated they’ve reached a milestone; the Xbox 360 has sold 80 million units worldwide.
